Cookies and local storage are different
Cookies are small values a browser can send with requests to a website. Local storage keeps values in the browser for a particular site and does not automatically send them with each request. Both can be relevant to privacy rules, depending on their purpose.
Our current use
This site's own code sets no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. It does not load third-party marketing tools. If you save a preference below, it records only that choice in local storage. The journal does not currently provide optional tracking features, so selecting Accept does not enable any.

What the saved value contains
The local storage key is scv-cookie-preference. Its value is either accept or essential. It contains no name, email address, unique visitor identifier or contact message. It remains in this browser until replaced or cleared; there is no automatic expiry in the site's code.
Changing or deleting a choice
Choose either button above to replace your saved preference. To remove it completely, clear this site's stored data through your browser's privacy or site-settings controls. Clearing data in one browser does not clear it in another. Private browsing and storage restrictions may prevent the choice from persisting.
Other local actions
The contact composer keeps its working text in the current page's memory, not in persistent browser storage. Copy places text on your clipboard only when requested. Download saves a text file only when requested. You manage those copies through your device.
Questions and future changes
If optional technologies are introduced, the information and controls must be updated before those technologies are used where consent is required.
